Highway build feat: NHAI sets four Guinness world records on Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada corridor; bituminous paving milestones logged

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on Sunday said it has set four Guinness World Records during construction of the Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor on NH-544G, marking a major execution milestone on the under-implementation project, according to a statement reported PTI.On January 6, NHAI created two Guinness World Records near Puttaparthi in Andhra Pradesh. The first was for the longest continuous laying of bituminous concrete, covering 28.89 lane km — a 3-lane-wide, 9.63-km stretch — completed within 24 hours. The second record was for continuous laying of the highest quantity of bituminous concrete, amounting to 10,655 metric tonnes in 24 hours.According to the authority, both records were established for the first time globally under a six-lane national highway project on the Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor.Building on this momentum, NHAI said two additional Guinness World Records were created on January 11. These include continuous laying of 57,500 metric tonnes of bituminous concrete and a record for continuous paving of 156 lane km — a 3-lane-wide, 52-km section — surpassing the previous world record of 84.4 lane km (a 2-lane-wide, 42.2-km stretch). The record-setting works were executed across Package-2 and Package-3 of the corridor, the statement said. The 343-km, access-controlled, six-lane Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor has been designed for safe, high-speed and scenic travel. The project includes 17 interchanges, 10 wayside amenities, a 5.3-km tunnel, and around 21 km passing through a forest area, NHAI added.
