Regional airline IndiaOne Air’s aircraft operating a scheduled commuter service on Saturday made a forced landing in an open area near Rourkela airport.

Accordingly, all passengers and crew were reported safe.

In technical parlance, a forced aircraft landing is carried out when an aircraft is unable to continue flight due to an emergency, such as an engine failure or a critical system malfunction. Such landings are executed at the nearest suitable airfield or in an open area.

Presently, IndiaOne Air, a scheduled commuter flight services provider, operates a fleet of three Cessna Grand C208B aircraft and is based in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.

The airline has been providing regional connectivity since 2022, serving destinations within Odisha and tier-3 cities in neighbouring states under viability gap funding (VGF) support from the Government of Odisha.

According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, the Cessna Grand C208B aircraft, registered VT-KSS, departed Bhubaneswar at around 12:25 hrs IST on January 10, 2026, while operating flight IOA102 on the Bhubaneswar–Rourkela sector.

At 13:14 hrs IST, the flight crew declared a “Mayday” to Rourkela Air Traffic Control (ATC). The aircraft subsequently carried out a forced landing at 13:20 hrs IST in an open area near Kansor.

“There were four passengers and two crew members on board the aircraft. All are safe and have been taken to a hospital,” the DGCA said in a statement.

“AAIB (Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau) will carry out further investigation.”

On its part, the Odisha state government said in another statement that the following the incident, the district administration reached the site and shifted the pilots and passengers to medical facilities in Rourkela.

“Accident has been informed to DGCA, Ministry of Civil Aviation and all concerned,” the statement said.

“As per the regulations, airline shall be reporting the details to the DGCA, AAIB for further actions.”
