Indian filmmaker Abhishek Chandra’s short Ladybug wins big globally

A poignant story about dealing with loss of a loved one, Ladybug – an English-Portuguese Drama is on a winning streak across the globe. Directed by Abhishek Chandra who also co-produced the film with Isabela Valotti has won 16 awards globally and is also nominated in 10 others.

Best Drama (Venice Film Awards – Sept 2020), Best International Short Film (Rameshwaram International Film Festival – Sept 2020), Best Short Film (Silver – Virgin Spring Cinefest – Oct 2020)  Best Director (Virgin Spring Cinefest – Oct 2020), Best Indie Short Film  (Five Continents International Film Festival), Best International Short Film (International Film Festival of Andaman & Nicobar Island – Dec 2020), Best Director – International Short Film (Uruvatti International Film Festival, Nov 2020), Best International Short Film – Special Jury Award (Uruvatti International Film Festival, Nov 2020). Best Actress – Sao Paulo Film Festival 2020, Best International Short Film (Port Blair International Film Festival – Sep 2020), Best Drama Film Short (Europe Film Festival – Jan 2021).

Abhishek started his film career in Mumbai producing award winning TVCs before shifting his base to Los Angeles. After producing successful music videos and shorts, Ladybug is his latest outing. The film is written by Isabela Valotti who also is the lead actor in the film. Her performance too has won many accolades including winning the Best Actress in Sao Paolo Film Festival, 2020.

Laden with heart rending music by Nathalie Bonin, the film has managed to string many hearts by its sincere and heart-wrenching story telling by Abhishek Chandra. Dealing with a loss of someone beloved is one of the toughest thing one can imagine, especially in these times where the world has seen and suffered much already. Ladybug reminds us of what’s really important and what to hold on to and when to let go. It is a powerful film that tells the agony of loss and acceptance.
